About Labrador Retrievers
Labs are large, strongly built, active dogs who need daily exercise. They are not for couch potatoes! With proper care and nutrition, they can remain active well into their senior years. Due to their size and activity level, labs benefit greatly from obedience training. They are usually very tractable, easy to train, and have a strong will to please their owners. Although they can at times be stubborn, they respond well to positive reinforcement training (they love food!).
In general, labs are good with children and other pets (although their size and activity level may be a bit overwhelming for a young child). The general lab temperament is good-natured and easy-going and a loyal and devoted companion. Aggressiveness should never be tolerated in a Labrador retriever.

Purebred labs come in three colors - black, yellow, and chocolate. They may have a small amount of white on their chest and/or paws. Their coat quality is generally short and dense and yes, they do shed! Their coats are low-maintenance - they benefit from a quick brushing and an occasional bath. Their ears should be cleaned regularly as they can be prone to ear infections.
Labs are bred to be loyal and devoted to their human family, and they do not thrive if they are kept outside away from human contact. Their ideal spot in the family is right in the middle of everything (which may sometimes include your bed!).
In summary, labs are wonderful, good-natured family dogs, but they do require training and daily exercise. You will be repaid with a loyal, devoted companion.
